The Dublin Difference
Student Trips
In our next article highlighting the Dublin Difference, we want to focus on students’ off-campus (field) trips. At Dublin Christian Academy, learning takes place beyond the four walls of the classroom, and our calendar has no shortage of school trips throughout the year.
But what truly defines “The Dublin Difference” is how these experiences take traditional field trips to the next level. Away from campus, students gain vital confidence and practical skills while deepening their relationships with classmates and staff in a meaningful, Christ-centered environment. This article takes a closer look at the trips our Lower and Upper School students set out on, exploring both the adventures themselves and the vision behind why we take them.
Lower School: Shorter Trips for the Littles
These shorter field trips offer our younger students hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom, giving them early opportunities to explore the world around them, gain confidence in new settings, and enjoy shared experiences with their peers and teachers. Every outing—no matter how brief— sparks curiosity and reinforces classroom concepts, while giving them a warm, community experience.
Throughout the year, our lower grades participate in memorable adventures perfect for their age level. Below are a few examples of outings this year that combine local culture, creative expression, and some fall fun:
Preschool & Kindergarten: Apple picking at Washburn’s Windy Hill Orchard, connecting with nature and celebrating the harvest season.
5th Grade: A creative trip to a pottery painting studio in Hillsborough, encouraging artistic expression and hands-on craftsmanship.
6th Grade: A visit to the historic Deerfield Fair, offering a rich blend of agricultural discovery, community traditions, and interactive learning.
Together, these experiences help even our youngest learners build the foundational social skills, curiosity, and shared memories that create the Dublin Difference.
Upper School: Bigger Experiences With a Mission
As students transition into our Upper School, their opportunities expand into multi-day and overnight excursions designed for their growing maturity.
Rather than serving simply as a reward, these larger trips act as a bridge to Christian adulthood, independence, and leadership. Leaving our campus challenges students to navigate unfamiliar environments, develop personal responsibility, and build real-world confidence. These journeys also unite students and staff through purposeful service, fellowship, and shared spiritual growth, equipping our older students to step boldly and maturely into a life of service, ministry, and learning beyond Dublin Christian Academy.
From wilderness exploration to hands-on ministry, our Upper School students participate in a diverse array of overnight trips and milestone journeys throughout the academic year:
- White Mountains Outdoor Adventure (9th–10th Grade): A three-day wilderness immersion in New Hampshire’s White Mountains, supported by a generous DCA donor in partnership with the Appalachian Mountain Club, fostering appreciation for the created world, teamwork, and resilience.
- Leadership Conference (11th-12th grade): A retreat grounded in Jesus Christ’s example of servant leadership. Through nightly sessions led by DCA faculty and a collaborative strategy workshop, upperclassmen are challenged to lead by serving, learning to reflect Christ’s humility and heart as they evaluate school strengths and work together to positively influence DCA’s culture.
- Junior High Ministry Trips (7th–9th Grade): A two-night weekend mission trip within New England—most recently serving at Camp Northfield—focusing on early opportunities for hands-on ministry and community service.
- Senior High Ministry Trips (10th–12th Grade): An extended 4-to-5-day ministry trip beyond New England, such as their recent service project at Rapidan Baptist Camp in Virginia, where students engage in deeper ministry outreach and leadership development.
- Milestone & Future-Focused Outings: Essential high school experiences, including college campus visits, junior high outings, and a memorable senior trip to celebrate graduation and future calling.
- Inter-School Opportunity for Junior High: An optional spring break Washington, D.C. trip in partnership with Heritage Christian School to offer junior high students early exposure to American history, national landmarks, and a chance to fellowship with students from another local school.
Through each of these opportunities, our older students discover that they can share leadership and faith beyond our Dublin campus.
The Reaped Rewards of Class Trips
The heart behind every excursion at Dublin Christian Academy comes down to the lasting impact it leaves on our students as they learn how to love others by imitating Christ.
In fact, during a recent Leadership Conference where faculty and staff discussed the core strengths of our school, trips were overwhelmingly highlighted as one of DCA’s greatest tools for connection. These outings create intentional spaces where real community takes root, relationships deepen naturally, and students are inspired to influence one another for Christ.
The true value of “The Dublin Difference” shines through across three key areas of student development:
- Social Growth: Away from daily routines and classroom walls, students bond in authentic, uninterrupted ways. Shared experiences—whether working together on a service project or navigating a mountain trail—foster deep friendships across grade levels and build strong, trusting mentor relationships with DCA faculty and staff.
- Spiritual Development: Stepping into new environments opens students’ hearts to dynamic spiritual growth. Ministry trips, evening devotionals, and hands-on service opportunities push faith beyond textbook knowledge, giving students a tangible way to live out their love for Christ and encourage their peers.
- Professional and Future Preparedness: By stepping outside their comfort zones and taking responsibility on multi-day journeys, students develop crucial real-world life skills. Excursions like college visits and team-building retreats instill adaptability, confidence, and leadership traits that prepare our graduates to step boldly into higher education, careers, and future ministry.
Through every journey—from a lower school afternoon trip to a senior high mission project—we witness the lasting reward of seeing our students mature into confident, compassionate leaders grounded in faith.
Student Trips Serve as Life Lessons
At Dublin Christian Academy, class trips are far more than fun breaks from the school schedule—they are intentional steps in shaping well-rounded, faith-filled leaders.
Just as our students exit the campus to learn, serve, and build lasting relationships, these experiences prepare them for an even greater calling: stepping into the broader world as godly examples and lights for Christ.
In every journey, big or small, we fulfill a core purpose in our education—equipping DCA students to go out and make a meaningful difference for God’s kingdom.
“As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” John 17:18 (NKJV)
