LEADING WITH LOVE

CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP AT DCA

Providing a good, Christian education goes beyond the textbook. At DCA, we are training children to be the leaders of tomorrow. The training they receive at DCA will help them enhance personal growth, put their faith into practice, and gain a better understanding of service.

This article will cover leadership from the perspective of the greatest example of a servant leader,: Jesus Christ, and how Dublin Christian Academy encourages its students to emulate His characteristics as a leader.

Jesus, the Servant Leader

Jesus was (and still is) unquestionably the best model of how we as God’s children are to live our lives. We follow that example by imitating His servant leadership.

A Bible verse showing that Jesus is the ultimate servant leader.

A servant leader, in contrast to the world’s view of one seeking power and authority, is a leader who is compelled to serve through love, compassion, and humility, rather than seek to be served and praised.

Jesus’ sovereignty as the Son of God is undeniable. But His task on Earth was not to rule over its inhabitants with an iron fist. He came to serve and to save.

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 (NKJV)

These are a few of the key traits to look for in a servant leader like Jesus:

  • Humble and Selfless: Despite His deity, Jesus came to Earth as a lowly servant, willing to do any task, even washing His disciples’ feet, a job set aside for the lowest of servants.
  • Caring for Others: Jesus undoubtedly came to serve others, and He did so through His acts of caring. From healing the sick and the demon-possessed to feeding the hungry multitudes, His actions always put others before Himself.
  • Making the Ultimate Sacrifice: Jesus’ ultimate act of servant leadership was His death on the cross. His self-sacrifice for all of humanity was the greatest example of love for others and serves as a foundation for Christian servant leadership. In essence, put the needs of others before yourself.

When we follow Christ’s example, we embody servant leadership, putting loving service ahead of personal admiration and authority.

This Year’s Program at The Appalachian Mountain Club

Answering the call to instill Christ-like leadership in our students, DCA provides training for our 11th and 12th-grade students every fall through a Christian leadership program.

This year, the conference will be held at the Appalachian Mountain Club, an organization that promotes outdoor conservation and recreation. A Christian couple is fully funding this opportunity for our school. During this three-day event, students will explore the mountains and leadership with a biblical worldview, considering what it means to be a leader by modeling Jesus, who led by serving.

The conference runs from September 23-25, with two overnights. During the first two days, the students will participate in hiking and outdoor education with sessions on biblical leadership each night led by DCA faculty. The last day of the conference will be a DCA-led school strategy session.

In that session, students will be asked to discuss changes they would like to see at DCA. Individually, in small groups, and ultimately as one large group, they will be asked to share three strengths of the school, three weaknesses, and three goals with an implementation plan for those goals to better DCA.

When students learn to lead by serving, they are learning to use authority to edify and take care of those that they influence, ultimately glorifying God through their actions.

Why Choose DCA for Christian Leadership Training?

The annual conference for our oldest students is a great training ground for students at the world’s doorstep. But leadership is taught at all different age levels at DCA through programs and different activities that occur on campus, such as:

  • Student Council: Students serve their class as student body officers throughout the year.
  • Class Fundraisers: Students learn leadership skills by taking on responsibilities to plan, organize, and follow through on a team project.
  • Sports Teams: Athletes take on leadership roles within their team to create team unity and reflect Christ-like character.
  • The Big-Little Program: Upper school students (the bigs) are assigned to lower school students (the littles) in this mentoring program to learn how to be leaders as role models.

DCA fosters leadership skills in its curriculum and activities at all levels, preparing students to serve as leaders in our local communities and beyond.

Exiting the Classroom, Entering the World

Whether they realize it or not, all students are leaders in some capacity, and we hope to help them discover their abilities during their time here at Dublin Christian Academy.

If you have any questions about our curriculum, programs, or events, please contact us to see what DCA offers as we educate these exceptional students and leaders. The world desperately needs more good men and women to lead, serve, and share the Gospel.

“Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.” Hebrews 13:7 (ESV)
