Classroom Building Insulation, LED lighting, and smart Thermostats
In 2020, we worked hard to improve our energy efficiency. We took on three small projects that together reduced our energy costs by $9,000 per year.
Part 1 was converting 295 fixtures to LED, saving $6,000 and 40,000 kWh each year. Part 2 was installing tamper-proof smart thermostats and programmable thermostats; adding 14 smart thermostats for an estimated savings of over $1,000 per year. Part 3 was adding insulation to the classroom building and boys dormitory, increasing the R value from 19 to 60. This heat control measure was estimated to save us nearly $2,000 per year in energy costs.
These energy improvements were just the begining of an ongoing effort to reduce our energy usage.
